Definitely an elevational shoulder season storm.
Only about 2" of snow visible at the trailhead, in part due to unfrozen ground. Some slush from the ground melting from other tracks. Half a foot at the logging landing and perhaps 8" in places higher up.
I made a trailhead decision of barebooting based on the snow and tracks, but if I were to go back out this evening/tomorrow morning, I'd go with snowshoes. There is also a ski track (which I avoided as to not be a jerk). If doing anything higher than this small peak tomorrow, I plan to use snowshoes. Barebooting or Microspiking would be too much work and leave too much of a mess for others.
Cloudy, snowy day with flakes still falling as of dark. |
