| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
The newly paved parking area for Jackson is 5-star. It was in process when I hiked this in October. Thank you! |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes, Light Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
The water crossing is partially snow bridged. Because it’s so cold today (Wednesday) and will be also cold tomorrow (Thursday), you should be good to go. After Thursday, when it warms up again, I would recommend caution. |

| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
There is a new, awkward, roughly delimbed blowdown about 200 yards above the Elephant Head spur. This is good, as it is close to the trailhead. It’s about a 12” diameter. It’s fairly challenging to get under with a loaded winter pack (even for a short person like me). If it’s possible to take care of this one before too long that would be awesome. I would attempt it with my Silky Saw; I think that it would be possible. Thanks!! |

I hiked for sunrise and saw an amazing fogbow!!! (Photos on IG). I had my snowshoes on for about 100’ and then realized that the trail is very packed down. So I switched to light traction. The track is narrow but solid, which was unexpected and fantastic! My snowshoes went for a ride, today. Thank you to whoever broke this out yesterday! As with the water crossing notes, when it warms up on Friday and Saturday I would use caution and definitely bring snowshoes. There is at least a foot or more of snow above the Webster trail junction and with warming temperatures that is definitely going to require snowshoes!! |
