Comments
Comments: I know none of this will apply after the rain, but here goes anyways. Warm day on the Twins! From the parking lot to the water crossing, I bare-booted as the trail is well packed down and the snow is sticky. The water crossing can be crossed with bare boots or spikes. I didn’t find trash bags to be necessary or useful, but some were using them. After the water crossing, snowshoes are the name of the game. You could wear spikes for ~0.5-1 more mile if you wanted, but above that the snow is sufficiently soft to where snowshoes would be best. The snow was fairly slushy and water-laden, particularly below 3,500’. Once at the krumholtz before North Twin and continuing on to South Twin, snow is much deeper and drier. Full on winter conditions by that point. Great views of the Presis yesterday, so a great December day for a hike.
