Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, December 9, 2023
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: The Mount Kinsman Trail lot is plowed regularly, just take it slow on the way in as the potholes persist!
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow - Unpacked Powder, Slush
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes, Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Partially snow bridged; no issues.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There is a duck-under just after the sugar shack, and about 10’ from a very recently addressed clamber-over. There is a very new blowdown at about 3200’; because it’s a conifer that is laying obliquely across the trail, it has necessitated a herd path around it. There has been a bit of destruction in forming that very necessary herd path. It would be easily amenable to a hand saw. No issues on the KRT.
Dog-Related Notes

Comments
Comments: Lots of people on this route today. The conditions here were the same as elsewhere reported - mushy snow, particularly in the afternoon, with lots of snowbombs, as the trees were shedding snow. I had all of my traction options with me and though I tried everything, it seemed that bare booting was best for the majority of the route. Most people were bare booting or in light traction. Interestingly there were no postholes at all. Yay for this!
The highlight of the hike was finally meeting Postal Patty!
