Skied up the road and through Carrigain Notch on good quality snow, which is now probably ruined by rain. Switched to snowshoes at base of Desolation Trail and carried skis. This trail is beyond brutal in deep snow, which is what was there on Saturday. It took me 4.5 hours to go 1.9 miles. I am only posting as a PSA to not do this trail in winter unless you are looking for a sufferfest. Absurdly steep sections with lots of backsliding. Hiked out from summit on fairly decent trail with some postholed drifts on Signal Ridge that might be concrete by now. Skied out the road in the dark, which was fun. Always have a headlamp!!! |
