| Comments: |
Road and lower trail covered with a few inches of crusty snow, with a few short open / muddy areas on the lower part of the trail. Able to bareboot the road and first mile or so of the Hale Brook Trail. After that the snow starts to get deeper and more was being added throughout the day from the snow squalls passing through. Snow up high was soft and unconsolidated (6+"), and there are patches of ice under that snow. After the second water crossing, three in the group put on snowshoes and two put on spikes, but snowshoes were really the way to go with much better traction in the soft snow. All wore snowshoes down, but will need more snowshoe traffic up high to consolidate things. |
