Comments
Comments: A FINE day in the forest was had. NO SPIKE NATION! Before sunrise start because of time constraint and thankfully with the conditions skipping straight to March/April, this was the best choice to get on the good snow. Road is snow covered and fast, there is a nice XC track in the middle as well. Maybe an inch or so of unconsolidated powder, was soft in afternoon. Car to summer lot in 20 minutes, that fast. Boney and light cover until you rejoin the old road. From there its wet and muddy in the usual spots. Cover is better the higher you go but there really isn't that much up there yet, seemingly. Despite temps yesterday getting up near 45, it never got above freezing above 3000 feet. Lots of snow laden trees still. We barebooted car to car, though spikes for the 0.2 to the summit would have been better. However, on principle, we left them off(and we are three stubborn mares.) There was no need for snowshoes today, nor is the trough broken for them at present. It's not wide enough. Peekaboo undercast for us at the summit. Another one for Lil Squirt for December, another calendar day check for me!
