With the exception of the water streaming on parts of the trail near the bottom, the conditions were about perfect for hiking this trail. Not too icy, and the condition of the snow was easy to navigate on, both ascending and descending. We used microspikes from start to finish and they were sufficient. Crampons might have been a little overkill. We felt they were not necessary. I ascended the chimney with no problem but if you do choose to do so take your time to find the right handholds and foot plants. So much fun! The by-pass was a better choice for the descent. No wind at the Summit of Osceola made for a most enjoyable snack break and the views went on forever! What a beautiful day to be in the mountains. |
