What an absolutely stellar day in the Belknap Range today. Incredible weather for mid-December with zero snow, warm temps, bright sun, and no wind.
We took our time heading up Piper Mtn. Trail as there were areas of black ice that were mostly visible, and areas of thin frost that were almost invisible but still slippery. No spikes needed as there was enough dry ledge to walk on but we had to be mindful of footing. Sunny and south-facing areas were dry and ice-free.
Given the spectacular day, it was a little weird that we didn't see too many people. We hung out on Whiteface for a good half hour or so and on Piper's south ledges for about as long and no one else showed up in either place. Good to see Samantha, Nicole, and Jay out there today. |
