So many blowdowns in the first mile. I moved as many branches and trees as possible but I didn’t have a hand saw. Some trees will require the use of a chain saw due to size |

What terrible trail conditions. Things started off on route 115 very soggy and with more blowdowns than I could count many of which were annoying to bypass. The higher I got the less blowdowns but the more water and black ice started ramping up. About 1.3 miles in I encountered lots of ice with a dusting of snow. My rock spikes didn’t cut it and I was slipping despite wearing (shitty) traction. I avoided the sheets of black ice as much as possible until hitting the ridge. I summited Martha and then followed Cherry mountain trail all the way down back to the forest road. Lots of moose activity and they post holed the hell out of the trail all the way from Cherry mountain back to the forest road (until snowpack was diminished that is). Very wet lower down. Ran the forest road back to 115 |
