This was an interesting hike for December. Warm weather and the heavy rain wiped out all snow in this area. Had bare ground for quite awhile. Barebooted up until probably 3000 ft then all the frozen water made for a challenge. Put on dull micro spikes and the footing was still sketchy but I was being stubborn. No significant snow accumulation until the intersection with Carriage Road. Then it’s a solid snow pack to the summit. Ended up using Hill Sound Trail Crampons for the descent and felt way more comfortable. If you have a good set of spikes I would suggest using them even though there’s quite a bit of exposed rock. Not possible to even use snow shoes here in my opinion. |
