| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Able to park in Lot 2 at 8:30 this morning (apparently skiing starts at 8?). By the time we finished at 12:30, all lots were full. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Ice - Black, Ice - Blue, Ice - Breakable Crust, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow/Ice - Small Patches |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Light Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
All are able to be rock hopped, but some rocks have a glaze of ice on them. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Shockingly, only one blowdown across the trail on Sosman. I definitely expected more than that. That being said, the erosion on the trail from the rain water was…yikes. |

Well this trail was a dumpster fire of hot garbage today.
Barebooted until the third water crossing, where we put on spikes as the crossing rocks had a glaze of ice on them. From the water crossing until about 3600’, you had three games you could play:
- Spikes on/Spikes off, repeat infinitely
- Transform your good spikes into rock spikes right before your very own eyes
- Use your rock spikes and pray to whatever Sky Daddy you subscribe to that they got enough bite
It was seriously rough. Just never ending alternating stretches of bare rock or bulletproof ice. Virtually no snow to be found. Except on the ski trails down. For a little bit, anyways. We were definitely glad to have opted to take the Sosman/ski trail option down to the “view” outlook. Fun conversation with the skiers we passed on their way up/our way down. The man-made snow was in shockingly good shape, given the conditions.
Gonna be a rough go at it until the next snowfall.
