Ferncroft Rd and parking lot are not icy, down to dirt. Quiet for a Saturday with about 8 cars around 1130am |

No crossings until the descent on Dicey's Mill - I opted to take the downed log to the left and managed and easy rock to log to rock route. Rocks not icy at that time; the main log that people usually take was still a little icy |

Decent duck under just before the summit of Hibbard. Awkward to maneuver under and tight in the woods to go around |

Wanted to try a different route up Passaconaway after doing Hibbard recently. Off and on with the spikes all day and only needed to use really dull rock spikes. Barebooted on bare trails up to Hibbard. Some decent ice flow on the rocks before and heading up Mt Wonalancet but all easily avoided, and no ice in the way on the slabs before the summit. Down into the col on Walden Trail there was enough ice to start slipping so the spikes went on for the first time here. It was a mix of hardish ice, bare trail and icy snow on Walden up to Passaconaway. More snow/ice cover up around the summit of Pass and heading down Dicey's Mill but fades out quickly to running water and sketchy ice patches. Spikes came off for the final time just before the water crossing on Dicey's. After that it's a mix of everything - mud, bare trail, water and light fresh ice. Only saw two others towards the end, a beautiful and quiet day! |
