Similar conditions remain compared to report a few days prior. Above freezing temps caused some minor posthole action on btw Flume & Liberty. Mud down low at start had me missing my gaiters, but tucked-in socks did just fine. Spikes went on near Forest protection sign on tree below tent site. The compacted ice below snow line requires patience or at times painful bushwhacking to avoid. This is similar to many other local trails now. As hoped, nice compacted snow trail base from just below AT trail junction to Flume. Few sections of tricky ice coming off Liberty. Snow depth max prob 1’. Junco flocks were having a day. Great solo adventure avoiding hypothermia :) |
