Do you like Spring hiking? Then do I have a trail for you! It starts with slick mud and leaves before getting just enough ice for microspikes around 3100 feet. Just below the Kinsman Ridge trail intersection the snow gets a little more packed and makes for slightly faster going, but today's warm temperatures had that melting by the way back.
Kinsman Ridge Trail went fast going south but was quickly becoming mashed potatoes and slick rock on the trip back. Coming down Mt Kinsman Trail was fine until the Bald Peak spur when the leaves and mud started to get very, very slick.
Overall the trail is in decent condition, but bring spikes, waterproof boots and an adventurous spirit for a hike that feels more like April than December. |
