Comments
Comments: Based on the warm conditions opted to approach the Osceolas from the South side. Tripoli Rd was clear of snow and ice and about as challenging as a walk down a road. Mount Osceola Trail was wet and rocky with an occasional patch of ice. This is fairly easy to navigate with bare boots. Above 3000 feet or so, the ice patches become more frequent and more expansive. This is when the spikes on (and stayed on until the return leg). Wet spring snow at the summit. Trail between Osceola and E. Osceola was wet but largely devoid of ice. The chimney was easy to bypass on the way down, and easy to clamber up on the way back. The constant drizzle never let up making the return trip even more slippery. Even with the spikes (and if they weren't rock spikes before, they sure are now) I ended up taking a big spill on ice covering a stretch of angled rock slabs (about 4000' elevation). With a swollen left hand sporting a big bruise, made it back to the trailhead just before dark. Tripoli Rd. in the dark was easy as long as you ignored the "Be Bear Aware" sign.
