Comments
Comments: Signal Ridge is starting to look more like winter with last night's mini storm, but the entire hike is still a mixed bag. I bare booted the entire way up and wore spikes on the way down to about 2800 feet. Signal Ridge had knee deep drifts that had me wishing for snowshoes, but spikes were fine other than a few hundred yards.
Road walk - Mostly good conditions with avoidable ice and soft mud, plus a few really interesting wash outs.
Lower Signal Ridge Trail - A combination of cracking ice, leaves, mud and easily hiked trail.
Water Crossing - Rock hop-able. Brought trash bags but didn't even think about using them.
Middle Signal Ridge Trail (the climb) - crusty ice and snow. Bare booted up with spikes down.
The Ridge - 2' deep drifts that could really use some tramping down with snow shoes.
Approach to summit - Back to crunchy ice.

Overall the entire trail is in surprisingly good condition given how much water is around. One or two more snow falls and it should have a nice path for winer hiking.
