A long loop hike with mixed conditions. bare booted up the blueberry cutoff, with icy spots avoidable. Went to spikes on the The ledge, but had to take them off to climb the first major slab with the crevices. The spikes wouldnt hold on the Dry rock face. Higher up was black ice and breakable in spots, where spikes were beneficial. Rollins trail had light snow cover and was in decent shape to traverse. Summit loop of passaconaway was a mixture of ice, dry and wet rock and breakable ice over water. Walden trail required some creative descents to navigate some of the ice covered slabs. Spikes stayed on until we hit mast road. No need to even carry snowshoes. |
