Comments
Comments: We did a quick, 7-plus mile loop via some old woods roads to the middle section of the Elwell Trail to check on trail conditions there, having read in a previous post that there were a number of blowdowns on that section. We cleaned all deadfall and blowdowns as we walked; picking them up was pretty easy. The small hand-sawable ones are not an issue for now; these can be gotten later. Shout out to Some Guy Named Jack for chainsawing some large, annoying blowdowns last month on this section -- very pleasant to walk past these today.

(This will count toward our redline grid, now in its fifteenth year.)

Beautiful conditions today -- clear, dry, firm trail was fast-moving, with just a bit of give. Some blue ice in north-facing shadow areas on Elwell Trail at higher elevation, in particular near the intersection with the Oregon Mountain Trail -- but nothing that couldn't be sidestepped.

The old sign at the intersection of the earlier iteration of the Welton Falls Trail (South) and Elwell Trail has been removed. We held a brief memorial service for it at the site of tree in which it was bolted.

Old Dicey Road and much of Welton Falls Road seems to have been repaired a bit in the past few months; last time we were there, it was pretty rutted and eroded.

Welton Falls Road still has very deep ruts just past the small bridge.
