| Water Crossing Notes: |
The crossing 0.9 miles in was difficult. I crossed farther down river than I ever have before. There is a log across but it was about 2 feet above the water making it hard to use poles to balance and it was covered in ice making it slippery even wearing good spikes. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Two duck-under blowdowns that are not a problem now but will be if snow depth increases. One was in the flat area between the notch and the abandoned trail. The other is just after the spring. This second one is dangerous because it looks high enough to walk under but because you are climbing at that point it is possible to hit your head. Both are about 12" diameter. |

| Comments: |
Cabot via Bunnell Notch: The ice starts about halfway up Bunnell Notch trail. Very roughly: 1/2 the route is packed snow with easy traction. 1/4 is dry/frozen dirt with one or two small mud patchs. The other 1/4 is ice. Most of the ice patches are easy enough with spikes but a handful of ice flows were difficult to find footing even with good spikes. I left medium/good spikes on the entire time. There was a lot of dry ground and rocks but the conditions switched back and forth too often to bother switching. |
