Since I was doing the loop, I parked in Quinttown. Hiker parking for Dan Doan 0.7 miles up the road is posted “no parking, snowplow turnaround.” |

Mousley Brook was easy peasy. South Branch Jacobs Brook has a nice bridge. |

Some recent blowdown clearing on the ridge |

House at Daniel Doan Trailhead has “beware of dog” signs. All I saw was a happy golden and her friendly human. There are also signs asking folks to not let the dog(s) hike up the mountain with you. |

This is actually a nice time to hike Daniel Doan Trail because the soggy sections are frozen. I barebooted until a quarter mile below Smarts, when the ice was unavoidable. Nice gradual descent to South Jacobs Brook and about a mile road walk back to my car. There’s about one inch of snow on the ridge.
Did Lone Oak Trail to finish up the day. Some mud at the very start, then frozen ground.
