I have wanted to bushwhack the long northern ridge of Piermont Mountain ever since driving back from work all those days, watching hardwood leaves drop as the seasons change. A view into the forest well up the ridgecrest is possible, had to go scope it out for myself!
Lots of visible OLD overgrown logging roads, although very faint on the landscape. Followed one for a bit until it faded into a nice, open hardwood shoulder. Pleasant snowshoeing start to finish with no ice - easily knee-deep (~16-20") by Rt 25C, more like 10-12" on the mountain. Perhaps 12-14" nearing the summit.
Saw the Kingswood "unofficial" trail flagging, my 'whack was a better, more direct approach, so I quickly diverged from the bright pink surveyor tape.
This ascent doubled as a reason to go visit the relatively newly placed summit canister - I opted to not sign in today, just a visit was all. Bright orange and is plainly visible from anywhere about the summit area, it is, however, adjacent to a plume of conifers which is likely the real high point of Piermont Mtn.
Please enjoy a brief write up recounting the adventure this morning, at the link provided. Cheers! |
