Comments
Comments: Route:
Out and back using Pine Bend Brook and Mt Tripyramid trails.

Pine Bend Brook: blazed in jaunty yellow. Some blazes updated, others very faded. Was able to use all blazes to navigate the trail. Completely unbroken foot deep powder for nearly the entirety. Snowshoes from start to finish. The unbroken powder took an inordinate amount of time to break out. No grippy snow to kick into and step up. My partner and I have begun the base track. But it is far from spike ready.

Mt Tripyramid Trail: no blazes that I saw. I hiked from the junction to the summit of North Tripyramid. Just after the junction with Pine Bend Brook are many deep drifts. I broke these out, but foresee imminent return with winds. The 0.3 summit scramble was a workout. Breaking trail up the steep slabs took all I had to get up. For the most part I could make out the corridor. I struggled in one part and had to hunt around for the trail. Several boulder “step ups” turned into full body flings into the snow to tamp it so that I could Army crawl up them. I was completely soaked from snow crawling/falling/body slamming the slabs. There was some ice under the snow on the ledges/boulders of the final summit scramble, but these were completely negotiable with snowshoes.

We had a hard, non-negotiable turn around time. I was barely able to make it to North Tripyramid before the cutoff. Alas, Middle Tripyramid remains unbroken as I could not get out there today.
