Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: First crossing has a snowbridge that felt sketchy but held up. For some tempting reason I tried a different "snowbridge" on the way back and whew it was a mild disaster. Couple of the small runoffs are more wet than snow. Second crossing (before Cedar Brook Trail) held up on my way out but gave way through slushy ice on my way back. The takeaway is use caution at the crossings!
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Step over blowdowns covered up or just almost covered by snow

Comments
Comments: This wasn't the plan for today, but the Hedgehog/Potash lot wasn't plowed out and so I was betting the Hancock lot would be. I broke trail up to the Cedar Brook Trail junction. There was significant snowfall followed by just enough rain to make for a really thick deep heavy snow. Snowfall had to be between 8"- 24+", accumulating as I went in farther. Good news is the rocks are covered up, I think I saw a whole two rocks near the little runoff areas. So anyway this was a sinking with the snowshoes kind of hike. Did I say there was significant snowfall? I tried not to leave the trail a haggard mess and I went back over quite a few sections as much as my energy and time permitted. It's not perfect but better than the two sets of tracks I would've left. There are certainly sections that I did not go back over (see also: energy and time) and I'm sure they are obvious and messy but they're fairly short sections and not overly frequent, and hopefully easily tamped down by the next snowshoer. It was a good effort to make it to Cedar Brook Trail which means it'll take a real good effort to make it up beyond that. All in all it was really another beautiful day in the woods!
