Comments: Rough from the start to the spur to head to Willard, everyone who got out the day before while the snow was still soft barebooted and postholed, which froze. A few tracks to the first water crossing, but beyond that it had been untouched, which wasn't any easier. A thick crust that you broke through more often than not, with at least a few inches of granular beneath that. I turned back 4/10 of a mile below Avalon, at that point I was punching through the crust every step and sinking into ~10" beneath that.
