Comments: Used the need for groceries as a reason to get out and snowshoe bushwhack this NH500-Highest peak.
I bushwhacked up the western ridge, which seems to ascend out of the elusive Rumney Town Forest.

As stated above, snow was plowed enough for 1 car to be parked off the road in front of the gated FR 605 corridor. Opting to minimize unnecessary mileage, I continued along the old boulder wall which lines the old FR 605 (FR 605A winds east and back to meet FR 605, and is depicted on most digital maps).

Snow: 6-8" of powder with an unsupportive crust: from the 1,040' trailhead to ~1,700'. From 2,000-2,204' summit, the snow was almost completely supportive, on top of the crust.

The forest was totally open hardwoods until 1700', then open softwoods with 1 minor patch to push through which was young fir regrowing alongside the snowmobile corridor and the cleared area around the summit.

If there is a canister, I did not find it, and I roamed all over that summit. Not really looking for a recycled salsa jar the entire time roaming, the summit forest was just so lovely, I did not want to leave. Plus it was only 9am, not too windy, full sun. On top of all that - I did not deal with a single posthole, which seems to be plaguing the rest of White Mountain trails, no thank you.

Great little hike! I heard there is an unofficial, rough path up this little mountain - I'd bet that is really beautiful! I had zero need for trail in those woods, just roaming and climbing.

For more details about the ascent, and some color photography, enjoy a brief write up at the link provided.
