Yesterday's spring snow set up over night. As a result, the carnage left behind by mouthbreaking Microspikers is NASTY.
Took one of the unnamed paths and found it to be uneven, even after being partially repaired by snowshoers. Fortunately no one had been on one of the upper mountain paths, so no postholes to be found. Crust was generally firm enough to support snowshoes, but there were some areas where I broke through in a few places. With a foot of snow, this would have been awful without snowshoes.
I attempted to descend the Mt. Prospect Trail, but it was a POSTHOLE MINEFIELD courtesy yesterday's Microspikes. I turned around and reclimbed to the summit to retrace my tracks, rather than deal with this ankle twisting mess.
Beautiful March-like afternoon with clear skies and temperatures in the 30s. |
