Comments
Comments: For the first .6 miles, the trail is a combination of ice and semi-packed granular snow 2-3” deep requiring micro spikes. After that, the snow is loose, about 8-10” deep, and requires snowshoes to avoid constant post holing. Trail not well traveled from .8 miles on with just a single set of footprints before mine. Turned around at 1.2 miles to avoid post hoeing the trail. Will return another day with snowshoes or when the surface is packed.
There are tons of trails on the Castle in the Clouds property. Did some of the well-traveled ones closer to the parking lot and pond. Oak Ridge Trail has a great look out with many views of the Castle and surrounding peaks.
