Snowshoes all day. A few inches of fresh powder down low to maybe 6" on the ridge fell yesterday. A nice trough is starting to develop, the snow here is deep. These trails saw about a dozen sets of snowshoes but the base is still very soft and unconsolidated. There were a few people barebooting it and they each were making 4-6" divots with every step and mixed in some knee-deep postholes every few strides. I do believe they were just inexperienced winter hikers. Thankfully for those heading out tomorrow, everyone heading up after them were in snowshoes and were smoothing things out. |
