Comments
Comments: Went out to owls head yesterday with a group of 6. Bare booted Lincoln Woods and the Black Pond Bushwhack. Note that we followed the parallel unmaintained trail just past the pond instead of the traditional route. It reconnects to the traditional route so no big deal. Stayed bare booted on Lincoln Brook until we got to the start of Brutus. Switched to snowshoes and broke trail through crusty snow up to 3500 feet. Snow switched to soft powder from 3500 to summit. There were squalls coming in but the trail should be pretty well broken out at this point. Made good time and generally a pretty straightforward trip. Sections of Brutus are very steep, used a lot of trees for help pulling up. Could use crampons on that section but personal preference. Kept the snowshoes on heading back until we got to Lincoln woods.
