We were the only ones on the trail today. Road walk up church street and right down Promenade street to the trail head. At the beginning the trail is also part of Bear Springs snowmobile trail and it was nicely groomed. When it diverges to the right from the snow mobile sign (clearly marked) there was a somewhat filled in snowshoe track that we followed for a bit but it abruptly ended as it was approaching the top of the first hill. From there we were breaking trail through anywhere from 6 inches early on to well over a foot as we got higher. We broke out up to Chapel Rock and then found more snowshoe tracks as we passed the cabin and got closer to Pine. At the junction with Pine Mountain Loop a snowmobile had come up to within a tenth of a mile of the summit which made the going easier. Beautiful views from Pine and especially Chapel Rock. Definitely will want snowshoes for this until its better broken out. |
