Comments
Comments: With Carrie. We are both sick, so this was a grind but we needed to get out.

Trail was mostly firm and supportive and started to get mixed with crusty powder around 1400'. We put on snowshoes, but one could argue they weren't appropriate until about 2000', and followed the barebooted track. The trail was unbroken at about 2000', where the barebooters ahead of us decided to not go on without snowshoes. It was sometimes supportive crust with about a foot of powder underneath. Open reaching Black Snout Trail, it was collapsing crust with 1+' for powder beneath. Shortly after the spur to Black Snout, the trail was snowmobile broken, which was a nice change of pace. The snowmobile had cut the first switch back to the High Ridge Trail, which I followed trying to catch up with Carrie, who stayed on a broke out the actual trail. The High Ridge Trail was already broken and seemed to have had substantial traffic.

Unfortunately, we crossed paths with another person shortly after leaving the summit, who was wearing snowshoes, but apparently had just put them on because our JUST BROKEN SHOWSHOE TRACK was postholed.. which made the descent much spicier than expected. I don't get it. We flattened out this new, deeper trench on the way down, but who knows if he kept his snowshoes on for the descent.
