Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: A wonderful dog followed me up the path. Purple collar but no I.D. tag. I thought she would turn back as she was going all over the place at high speed; but she did not go back. When the snow got too deep for her (and me) we turned back. She seemed to find her human as we reached the trailhead, as the human was just then driving in. It was all the kind of accident that unfolds and I did not mean to hike very far with the dog. I was trying to contact the Inn because I thought the dog might be lost from a guest there but no cell coverage. I hope the owner did not get too worried. I could not get the dog not to follow me so I at least tried to look out for her and trying to figure out what to do, and when the dog slowed down and snow turned to ice in her fur, we turned back.

Comments
Comments: I read somebody broke trail here a few days back but then it snowed again. The first mile was great and easy enough to plow through the new fluff. But then things got steeper and my pace became slower as the drifts and new snow seemed irrationally deep and slick. My snowshoe televators were helpful but maybe I needed a shovel or rocket fuel or friends to share the effort. How could the snow be like that if people broke trail here just the other day? I hate that I didn't get it done to the summit but various little things were snowballing into an imperfect outing so just after the 1.5 mile mark, I turned back and called it a training day. Snowshoes the whole time. A few accidental butt slides on a day when one should not wear fleece leggings and a down miniskirt, as the snow filled the stupid skirt like a giant snow bag. I shall return another day to redeem myself from this unglamorous event.
