 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Ammo lot is plowed, mostly empty today. Jefferson Notch road was well packed with snowmobile tracks, saw 4 riders. |
|
 | Surface Conditions: |
Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular |
|
 | Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes, Light Traction, Traction, Ice Axe, Skis |
|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
Mostly snowbridged, step over easily. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
A few blowdowns on Caps ridge, but I was able to get over or under. The worst part is the extreme narrowness of the trail, it is difficult to squeeze through the spruce branches. |

 | Comments: |
I was curious how Caps Ridge would be so I ventured up to the first Cap before turning around due to the cold and the rocky conditions. Breaking trail started out easy in 6 inches of fluff with a nice firm base, until I got above tree-line and there was no base, just dangerous ankle-twisting conditions. I’m not sure if crampons would be appropriate. I was expecting the snow to be firmer around the rocks, but it was too soft. |
