| Comments: |
The Jewell Spur Tr and the Jewell Trail (from the ammo lot) are snowshoe broke to treeline at about 4600'. We followed the tracks of a single barebooter wondering how they had the energy to slip and slide in the dry powder. There is anywhere from 6" to a foot of powder on top of a packed trail (from before the storm). It's gets deeper and deeper the higher you climb. You'll want to wear a waterproof shell with a hood on the hike up because there is still a lot of snow in the trees that will fall on your head and go down your back. Despite our trail breaking, you'll still want snowshoes for traction as the snow is very dry and unconsolidated. |
