| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Lafayette Campground parking lot is plowed on the Right side (at underpass to OBP & Falling Waters) but not on the Left side at the Lonesome Lake trailhead. Many cars have driven in on the Left side so if you have snow tires you are probably fine parking on that side. |

5 of us went up Hi-Cannon and down KRT to Lonesome Lake trail. We used snowshoes the entire day. Hi-Cannon is in great shape and nicely packed out. The ladder was easy. There was no ice on this trail. Some people we passed were using spikes but snowshoes is the better choice. Coming down KRT was not well broken out and was difficult between Hi-Cannon and Lonesome Lake trail. The ledges were very steep and hard to do in snowshoes without slipping. This area had ice underneath maybe 6" or 8" of snow and the trees were coated with ice. This made it harder for the snowshoes to get traction. I would have found the ledge easier with full crampons and I had them but others did not so we all stayed in snowshoes. Once you're below the ledge it was easy going. The boulder section was filled in nicely. And coming down Lonesome Lake to the hut was easy going on loosely broken out snow. Below the hut Lone Lake is hard packed and you could get by with spikes but I still recommend snowshoes. |
