Comments
Comments: From vehicle, snowshoed unplowed New Colony Rd. 0.5 mi to Orange Cove Trail which is groomed and snowmoed. Continued on Orange Cove Trail to HOL and down the N side a short bit to 2250' where a wide skidder trail leads E down the slope. We followed this for a short while eventually turning off and crossing the brook at 2000'. Continued ENE toward Mowglis in wide open hard woods until 2100' where we hit dense, young hardwoods and hobble bush. These difficult conditions lasted until 2200' where we entered mixed hardwoods/softwoods. Then it was easy going to the summit. Followed our tracks back.
bw conditions:
breaking effort: all flavors from easy to hard, including a few spruce traps. From the brook crossing to the summit, this westerly facing slope did not have the supportive boilerplate that we saw yesterday on southerly and easterly facing slopes.
grades - mostly easy, very little moderate
tree density - much wide open hardwoods, some dense young growth
