| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Parked at the northbound Basin lot. It's well plowed, plenty of parking. Privies are closed. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow - Drifts |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes, Light Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Almost fully bridged. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
LST has a one smaller maple down that is not really obstruction, and at least one older / limbed easy step-over. FRT between Liberty and Flume there's a spruce that is essentially vertically standing in the middle of the trail; not an issue right now but may be once we have another foot of snow and that section turns into a tunnel through the conifers. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Saw one happy pup who was determined to get to the summit of Liberty without stopping; his human on leash in tow benefiting from the mechanical advantage. |

| Comments: |
Snowshoes all day and were the best choice. Liberty Spring Trail is well packed out but I found the base to be less supportive than expected. The majority of people out today were booting it without issue but I did observer a few occasional fresh postholes on my return. Still, the trail is in great shape. Franconia Ridge Trail between Liberty and Flume has seen less traffic, with some light drifting in areas.
It looked like there were only a couple sets of tracks heading north on FRT from yesterday and they were lightly drifted in. Snowshoes would be needed for that section for sure. |
