The trailhead sign is now ringed by firewood. The actual trail to the pipeline has not been used lately. We broke it out. The section of the trail that coincides with the Snowmachine trail just requires microspikes. Snowshoes are needed once the hiking trail steps off into the woods. There was older snowshoe track but it was drifted in in some places. Blazing is spotty on this trail and there are some areas where its easy to get confused. There is snowmachine traffic at Horton Center and up to the old tower location. We followed the official trail that skips the Horton Center but took the old route through the center by the Yurts down.
My hats off to those hiking at higher elevation and more exposed, wind chill was an issue all day. |
