| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Thanks to DOC for doing more-than-usual maintenance on the road. They are not winging out as many spots as they have in years past, but they are sanding the road and parking lot now. It's no longer the great Al Merrill skating rink, where you'd come back and your car would have slid into the ditch on the other side of the lot. |

| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
One blowdown at el 4225, its a small diameter and will be a non issue with a saw, it just needs to not be frozen into the ground on either side for easier removal. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Why do people bag their dog poop and then just leave the bag overtly on the side of the trail? |

| Lost and Found: |
There was a pair of black ski goggles on the summit that i tried to bring down but the winds had other ideas, they are a part of the mountain now. Also someone broke their trek pole and decided to just stab it into the snow and leave it. A group pulled Excalibur out of the snowbank and packed it out. |

A delightfully no nonsense day was had today. Three cheers for the return of our friend, the SNOW MISER! Before we even began, the hits began. First, it was zero at the trailhead. Then the car next to us pulls up, the guy puts on Blundstones (like a chelsea fashion boot, not insulated) throws on snow pants, and a drawstring pack like you'd get at the local bank for opening up your first checking account, and just went blasting up the road. Simply epic. No issues on the road walk or really at any point along the trail. It is broken out properly with snowshoes and was lovely footing. It's not quite consolidated (or will because its so cold and dry). We have Officer Chef Risotto-Boyardee for that. Clearly his aviators scared everyone yesterday into wearing them. Captain put his snowshoes on around the old version of Gorge Brook Trail, I put mine on at last sure water, and they both stayed on until our return back to the road, of which we donned spikes back to our sweet combustion engine vehicle. About a dozen out today, congrats to Feral_Melissa for gridding out January! Winds where spicy up on the summit cone, I was getting tossed around on the gusts. Facebook experts will tell you easily blowing 100. Someone did had an anemometer with them however and said the wind chill readings where -42.1F. My ex would tell you my heart is STILL colder than that... *rockets kicking off stage* 'whatever i touch, turns to snow in my clutch... i'm too much!' |
