Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Sunday, January 21, 2024
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: We parked at a municipal lot in downtown Gorham and walked past the cemetery to the trailhead which was plowed out to the gravel pit (where a huge excavator is intimidatingly parked). Road plowed to that point but no good parking near trailhead. Easy walk from town, no big deal.

Trail Maintenance Notes: Trail is in great condition for winter travel, but start of trail in Gorham is a bit confusing due to recent gravel pit operation.

Comments
Comments: Random Group of Hikers, party of 3. We started in Gorham, hiked to the summit of Pine & a few view spurs (including Chapel Rock). Sections of the lower and upper parts of trail are used by snowmobiles and were broken out. Non-snowmobile areas of trail had 3" (lower elevations) to 5" (higher up) fresh powder (with deeper drifts) over a single set of older snowshoe tracks atop a breakable crust beneath. Going became more challenging nearer the top, but all is modestly broken out now. We lost the trail briefly just below Chapel Rock & circled back around to it. Lots of deer tracks. Pretty windy and cold at top but glorious.
