The trail wasn't very easy to find at the beginning because there were plenty of footprints everywhere in the snow. Glad we had a tracking in my Garmin watch to guide us. We took the Italian trail at the junction so we could grab Big Ball and Black Snout. The beginning of the trail was very icy. Our snowshoes were fine on it because they have crampons underneath, but microspikes for this section would have been better. Otherwise, snowshoes were mandatory. We opened the trail until the junction of the Turtleback trail. Climbing Black Snout was something... It was pretty steep and snow was loose. We weren't moving forward very quick on that part of the trail. However we had so much fun going down! We just had to follow our track and slide down with our snowshoes!
Met a bunch of nice people on snowmobiles on top of Shaw. We didn't see any other hiker that day. We were the only ones on the trail! The view of top of Shaw was incredible on that blue bird day. We also enjoyed a nice sunset on our way down. |
