Comments
Comments: KRT had a couple inches of fresh powder. Two guys ahead of me were in spikes. I started in spikes but switched to snowshoes after about 0.75 mile to get better traction in the powder and the benefit of my televators. The exposed areas of ski glades and the stretch just below the rim trail had variable depths of snow due to wind. I only saw a couple deep postholes on the exposed area of trail where snow was deep in spots. I kept my snowshoes on for the full descent because I didn’t want to bother taking them off, strapping them back to my pack, and switching back to spikes. But between our 6 pairs of spikes, my two snowshoes, and the guys’ two butts who appeared to have done a fair amount of sliding on the descent, the majority of the trail is pretty well packed again. Of course that will all likely change with whatever rain/sleet/snow falls over the next 24-48 hours as predicted.
