Trails
Trails: Nancy Brook Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, January 27, 2024
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parking area had 2” of snow and was big enough to fit about 5 cars. We were the only ones there.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow - Unpacked Powder
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Water levels were not an issue. However, the snow was 1-1.5 feet and sometimes sank 2-3 feet since it was tricky to find where the tops of the rocks were, versus the lower spots (weak mini snow bridges) between the rocks.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: We went as far as Nancy pond. Trail conditions were excellent! No blowdowns or drainage issues to Nancy Pond.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: None seen. The section we did would be fine for dogs.
Bugs
Bugs: None
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Nothing lost or found

Comments
Comments: One of us made it to Nancy pond as we broke trail in about 6-10” of snow at the base and 1.5-2 feet at the Nancy Cascade switchbacks. I turned around about 1/4 mile after the top of Nancy Cascades and 1/4 mile before Nancy pond due to both feet sinking 2.5-3 feet in the snow a half dozen times. I didn’t see any trip reports since 1/6/24. Snowshoes were a must. This is such a delightful route with the cascades, fairly steep switchbacks and a nice view of Mt. Nancy at Nancy pond. One thing to note, when you arrive at the first arrow sign that points to the right, follow the arrow. Don’t try to go the more direct (looking) route (that goes left) that is also on the All Trails map. We will be back later this year to summit Mt. Nancy!
