This trail is in great shape, mostly in the upper portions. Lower, due to varying temps I assume, has a lot of postholes, however the monorail is still stable, so if you decide to bare boot, stay in the middle and you'll be fine. In the upper portions, there is more snow, and an even better monorail. Snowshoes on the ascent, but opted for the spikes on the way down since it was cold enough not to wreck anything. Not many postholes in the upper elevations, only off to the sides every once in a while. If not in snowshoes towards the top, watch out if you step off, will be quite deep! I would suggest snowshoeing to keep the integrity of the trail however, especially after the first mile. Great day for a hike, zero wind, no view at the summit but temps steady at 27-29 and even got an audible AND a glimpse of some CoyWolves on the trail today. They are beautiful! |
