Comments
Comments: Overall a good hike. Sawyer River Road was mostly firm from previous snowmobilers with maybe 2 inches of new snow so easy walking. Bare-booted the first 2 miles of the trail - trail was frozen and 1-2 inches of new snow didn't quite fill in old post-holes but easy to avoid. Switched to snowshoes after the last major water crossing and had 2-3 inches of new snow up until the ridge. Trail was easy to follow from the edges of the old track. Significant drifting on the ridge and super windy. Dropped back down into the trail after the ridge and it was mostly filled in with drifting snow but still easy to follow because the trail is open and obvious in the trees. Very dry and unconsolidated snow up high so my tracks may be going already. I met one other person on my way down and he was wearing snowshoes too. Trail underneath is frozen but still kind of slippery/holey so snowshoes felt like the best option.
