Tuckerman Ravine Trail was in great shape, packed powder,no ice. Snowshoes were not needed as Hillsounds on boots did not damage the well packed trail. A terrifying event did happen. A snowboarder came down the trail at full speed in the section below the Lion Head junction where the trail is moderately steep with curves. Had either of us been on that side of the trail, I do not know how we would have survived the impact. We did go out of our way going home to report the incident to the Androscoggin Forest Service office in Gorham and encourage the placement of signage to discourage (forbid? snowboarders from going down the Tuckerman Ravine Trail. This is the second time this has happened on that trail in the past few years. |
