Parked two cars at end of Union Ave in Gorham, space for about 3; crossed RR tracks and walked through gravel pit area to trailhead nearly directly ahead |

Fairly straightforward climb to summit and beyond, stopping at various viewpoints, including Chapel Rock; lower trail was a bit messy from postholing/non-use of snowshoes but our party of five wore Microspikes until a point near a side trail to a view on the left (not worth it, overgrown) where the trail/track diverged; we took the right track (saw yellow blazes ahead on that one) then switched to snowshoes when the track thinned and the snow loosened; most stayed in snowshoes for the remainder of the hike; no view at summit, but nice view east at a lookout just before, and more views on Ledge trail past summit; best view from Chapel Rock, but mostly in the clouds this day; still, wonderful winter day in the woods. |
