Comments
Comments: I parked at the end of New Colony Road, walking the snomo road till a little past the HOL and headed to Catalouchee, only occasionally seeing a snowshoe print from earlier reports. I found the RHP, then turned almost due north and 'whacked down the northern drainage, veering slightly east eventually to pick up the northern spine that leads to the col between the 2 peaks. Snow was a little deeper on this side and woods were okay, not as great as the ascent, but mostly consisted of hobblebush. It was manageable in winter, but this would be a tough route in summer. I had been trying to save extra time and elevation by going this way, but I don't think I saved much time. From the col I went straight to the summit of the North peak, signed in and retraced my steps a bit on the descent, then went down the drainage in nice woods to the road and followed it back to my car. A lot of friendly snowmobilers out today. Snow was getting sticky on the way out, but still a beautiful winter wonderland out there.
