| Water Crossing Notes: |
The first 2 after leaving the AMC parking lot were rock hoppable, all others were solidly snow bridged |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
There are several large blowdowns on the Ammo; all are easy to duck. Very scary incident while descending Pierce on Crawford Path. A massive tree cracked and fell onto the trail inches from where my friend stopped to de-layer, just missing her. It's easy to go around it. |

| Dog-Related Notes: |
Eva had a great time but she is an experienced hiker. Would be cautious about recommending for dogs unless you dog is experienced. |

| Comments: |
The snow on the below-tree-line trails is perfect for snowshoeing. Packed snow, no ice. We barefooted from the parking lot to the 1st water crossing, where we saw knee-high post holes that are pretty frozen in place. We switched to snowshoes and wore them all the way to the car at Clinton Rd. We hiked up through the clouds and hoped that we would be rewarded with an undercast, which so many have seen this past week. Alas, no luck! We were socked in the whole way. It made cairn sighting quite the challenge, especially on the ridge between Monroe & Ike. We preserved &, despite needing to backtrack & correct a few times, we found our way. Snow drifts were above tree-line. We were totally surprised to see a lone hiker approach us from the mist. Gwen did a Jackson/Monroe out and back & moving fast. It was reassuring to know that there would be tracks to follow...except that the winds were blowing them away almost as soon as they were made. Except for the lack of visibility, it was perfect conditions for winter hiking. |
